Sub-Chamber Finals
There are no upcoming events at this time

The Darling Downs Sub Chamber was formed in September 1949 and since its inception has been in the forefront of show activities within the show movement.

Some achievements include:

In the 1950’s shows within the Darling Downs Sub Chamber had contestants in a Wool Princess competition, and from that a successful Queen of the Downs became a competition, which then went onto  become the Miss Showgirl throughout Queensland.

The Darling Downs Sub Chamber was the first to adopt a fixed show date probably back in the 1970’s.

The Darling Downs Sub Chamber was also the first to introduce a regional final for stud judges in 1979. It was the first in the state to follow with dairy cattle, cooking, farm produce, grain and horse young judges competitions. In 1983 the Sub Chamber introduced the hormel slide to Queensland to assist with the assessment of young judges. At the last Sydney Show on the old showgrounds, five of the stud beef cattle judges were all products of the Darling Downs young judges competitions.

The Darling Downs Sub Chamber held the first show management seminar in Queensland in October 1981 where 240 people from 92 show societies attended. More seminars followed, which attracted show personal from four states. The Sub Chamber has conducted horse information days, dating as far back as 35 years.

The Sub Chamber ran the Top of The Range Cattle Muster, the first of all breeds heifer show held in Australia and drew cattle from every state on 24 January 2009.

This Sub Chamber also conducted a steward’s development workshop, which is now a common event throughout the state.

The Darling Downs Sub Chamber was the first to introduce a junior committee and from that the Next Generation committee was formed in 2010 as a sub-committee of Queensland Ag Shows.

For information regarding show dates, schedules, programs and general questions please contact the individual show society’s secretary or the Sub Chamber secretary.

We hope you enjoy the shows within the Darling Downs Sub Chamber.
